Fair Update:
-We have had quite a few
questions from parents about science fair this year. Students have been
informed (and have hopefully informed parents) that there will be an optional
Science Club this year. Students who wish to participate will have weekly
meetings at lunch time to obtain help with their project. These meetings will
begin within the next two weeks. A projected timeline for projects has been
included in the documents on the website. It is important to note that the CSS
Science Fair will be held on February 19 with the Calgary Youth Science Fair
being held April 1-4 which, unfortunately, is during our Spring Break.
*Note: Students will NOT be
given class time to work on Science Fair Projects and it will have no direct
influence on their grades.
Math/Science:
-This week we will be starting a
project on fractions (to review and introduce some new ideas). We will also be
taking a look at percents. In science, students should be continually working
on their Moon Project. Pictures and Podcasts will be taken in periodically to
monitor progress. We are also starting a concurrent project about the Planets.
Students will be required to research a planet and share their finding with
their classmates while they go on a "Planet Vacation"
Humanities:
- We will be working on another
story this week. We will write the rough draft in Word and copy the text into a
ComicLife file. We will then add pictures and speech bubbles to bring the story
to life.
- We will also be discussing the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We will discuss several scenarios and
apply the charter. This will lead to a discussion of which right the students
value the most. This will likely become our next writing assignment.
