‘How to’ Instructions on formatting text
The text content on this page has been preformatted as a guide to help you quickly format basic text pages. To edit pages and format text, you must be in the WordPress Admin area of the Calgary Science School website.
Once you have browsed and located your page in the ‘Pages’ area, you can click the page link to go and edit it. When you have your page open you will see ‘Edit Page’ at the top – below that, a text field with your pages’ title – and below that is the Text Editor.
The Text Editor allows for viewing your text in two types of views. To view in ‘Visual’ mode click the ‘Visual’ tab (upper right hand area above the Text Editor’s window, on the left side of the ‘HTML’ tab). To view in ‘HTML’ mode click the ‘HTML’ tab (upper right hand area above the Text Editor’s window, on the right side of the ‘Visual’ tab).
Formatting a Title [style: 'Heading 1']
To format a Title styled as ‘Heading 1′, make sure your in the ‘Visual’ mode of the Text Editor. Select your text. Then click on the ‘Format’ dropdown menu. Find and select ‘Heading 1′. You should now see a preview of your text formatted in ‘Heading 1′ style. Click ‘View Page’ near the top of the page to open a live view of your page displayed exactly how the public will see it.
Formatting a Sub-Title [style: 'Heading 2']
To format a Sub -Title styled as ‘Heading 2′, make sure your in the ‘Visual’ mode of the Text Editor. Select your text. Then click on the ‘Format’ dropdown menu. Find and select ‘Heading 2′. You should now see a preview of your text formatted in ‘Heading 2′ style. Click ‘View Page’ near the top of the page to open a live view of your page displayed exactly how the public will see it.
Formatting a paragraph of body text [style: 'Paragraph']
Please note that the default setting for text is set to display as ‘Paragraph’ styled text. If you need to format text in ‘Paragraph’ style, make sure your in the ‘Visual’ mode of the Text Editor. Select your text. Then click on the ‘Format’ dropdown menu. Find and select ‘Paragraph’. You should now see a preview of your text formatted in ‘Paragraph’ style. Click ‘View Page’ near the top of the page to open a live view of your page displayed exactly how the public will see it.
Formatting Feature Text [style: 'feature-text']
To format text as Feature Text in ‘feature-text’ style, make sure your in the ‘Visual’ mode of the Text Editor. Select your text. Then click on the ‘Styles’ dropdown menu. Find and select ‘feature-text’. You should now see a preview of your text formatted in ‘feature-text’ style. Click ‘View Page’ near the top of the page to open a live view of your page displayed exactly how the public will see it.
Formatting a text link
To format a text link, make sure your in the ‘Visual’ mode of the Text Editor. Select your text. Then click on the ‘Insert/edit link’ button (with the “chain” image icon on it). You will see a new “lightbox” type window open with setting options to create your link. In the ‘Link URL’ text field, paste the URL address of the page you want the link directed to (ex. http://www.apple.com). Disregard the ‘Anchors’ options (refer to manual for details on setting page anchors). Set ‘Target’ dropdown to ‘Open in this window / frame’ option – this option opens your page within the same window as the initial link. Enter text in the ‘Title’ text field area if you would like a title to appear in the top browser window chrome area. Disregard the ‘Class’ options (refer to manual for details on setting ‘Class’).
