Why does the school have an admissions process?

There is such high demand to be part of the Calgary Science School that the Board of Directors implemented an admissions policy to guide the process. Additionally, part of our mandate as a charter school is to offer a specific type of program to a particular type of student. CSS does not have the resources to meet the needs of some exceptional learners and so our admissions procedures are designed to give us a better idea of the learning profiles of prospective students.

Once one of my children is admitted to CSS does that increase the chances of my other children getting in?

Yes. There is a sibling clause in our admissions policy that dictates that siblings of CSS students are moved to the top of their waiting list. This means that we have multiple siblings at the top of each waiting list, therefore the siblings are ordered by the date that the family first contacted the school.

Is admissions based on marks?

No. Admission is on a first come, first served basis. We a wide range of abilities in our student population. Our admissions process does not find the best and brightest of students, but rather it is designed to ensure that there is an appropriate fit between our program and our prospective students.
