Quotes

The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think – rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.

Principal’s Message

“It’s never just an ordinary day!”

This phrase has characterized the experience for students and teachers at the Calgary Science School since the first days of our operation. We pursue learning with a tenacity and creativity that engages students and makes their school experience a rewarding and fulfilling one. Indeed, at our school, it’s never just an ordinary day.

Walk through our doors and you will see students highly engaged in their learning. Our teachers work very hard to provide authentic inquiry-based learning experiences that allow students to be engaged and inspired. Technology and environmental & outdoor education are integral components to our work with inquiry, all of which happens in a culture of mutual respect. It wouldn’t take you long to take note of our positive, productive and supportive culture. At CSS we have a culture that supports learning, individuality, and mutual respect amongst all members of our school community. That culture supports learning and empowers people to push themselves to achieve excellence. I invite you to take some time looking through our site to get a sense of how we bring learning alive. Our teachers work hard to make learning relevant, rigorous, and rewarding for our students. Our school-wide focus on innovative teaching practices, supported by the use of laptops as part of our one-to-one laptop program, the multi-day field experiences that all of our students participate in every year, and the strong culture of mutual respect that we have developed, foster in students a love of learning. This school truly is a special place.
