Phil Butterfield
Assistant Principal
Following a 14-year career as a police officer in the City of Vancouver, Phil returned to school in 1990 and completed the teaching program at Simon Fraser University. His first teaching post was a rural school in central BC, where he first experienced the value of outdoor education. In 1995 he accepted a counseling position with the Canadian Rockies Public School Division in Canmore and began work on a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership at the University of Calgary in 1998. In the midst of his studies Phil migrated to Calgary where he assumed the position of school counselor at ABC Public Charter School (now Westmount Charter School). In 2004 he introduced the counseling and student services program at CSS before moving into an administrative role as Assistant Principal in August 2007.
Phil enjoys the students, staff and families at CSS and values deeply the role that CSS plays in providing a unique learning experience for inquiring minds. In the spirit of lifelong learning, he is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Education degree program at the University of Calgary and expects to be completed by 2014.
When Phil is not at school he spends time in the great outdoors with his wife, Sue, and their very active and busy family.
