Stephanie retired from the Calgary Board of Education in 2003 after thirty years as a senior high school chemistry and biology teacher and administrator.  Her last position was as principal of Forest Lawn High School.  Since her retirement, she has been a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary, teaching in the teacher preparation program (Master of Education Program) and working on the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement team (AISI). Both of these environments have allowed her to explore and support innovative practices in education in Alberta.

The Alberta Initiative for School Improvement is a government program whereby schools and school districts are able to access resources to support innovative programs.  As a member of the AISI team at the University of Calgary, Stephanie has the opportunity to provide consulting services to school districts in Central Alberta and Calgary and district.  She has also been involved in preparing literature reviews on current educational topics and conducted research into the effectiveness of innovative practices arising out of AISI projects.  The most important aspect of her work is the opportunity to be an active participant in the growing network of educators in Alberta who are actively engaged in developing and implementing innovative practices in education.

Stephanie considers herself to be very fortunate to be a member of the Board of the Calgary Science School. The work is exciting and rewarding mainly because of the commitment of all board members and the talent and exceptional work ethic of the administration and staff of the school. In her view, “there is something special going on here”.
